Guidelines for Volunteer Tutors – MNAC
Volunteer tutors are mentors and positive role models for younger students. Many tutors have
expressed that they gained more than they gave. Monday Night Alive in Colington is grateful
for your participation and relies on your help to provide students with greater opportunities for
learning and success. Please be mindful of the following guidelines:

1) Arrive 5:45-5:50 PM ready to work with other volunteers and your students, review
teacher recommendations, and select appropriate worksheets.

2) Sit at dinner with the students and other volunteers whether you eat or not and remain
until 7:30 PM.

3) Be clean and appropriately dressed to work with children in church. This means not
wearing clothing printed or marked in any way with profanity or any slurs or derogatory
terms – racial, cultural, gender, political. Colington UMC T-shirts are available when

4) If you must be absent due to illness or other emergency, notify designated person/persons
by telephone, email, or text no later than 4 PM on the day you will miss.

5) If you know you will be absent, notify designated person/persons at least one week in
advance of the date you will miss. Your students will be counting on seeing you and
having your help. With enough notice, we can provide adequate coverage when you will
be absent.

6) Bring no alcohol, knives, firearms, or illegal substances onto the premises of Colington

8) Adhere to the “safe sanctuaries” covenant introduced during orientation and included in
this booklet.

9) Report to the designated person/persons any concerns or incident regarding any student
or other worker. This includes and is not limited to accidents, injuries, illness, abuse, and
a child’s need for clothing or school supplies.
