OPENING PRAYER

LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT CANDLE

      RESPONSIVE LITANY  – Sandy Albarty

          Advent is a time for the human heart to wait, while

                   trusting God’s eternal time.

    How long, O Lord, how long?

    For those waiting for answered prayer:

    Grant your steadfast patience.

    For those waiting in the face of uncertainty:

    Grant unshakable confidence in your sovereign

        provision.

    For those waiting for justice and mercy to reign:

    Grant a glimpse of your glory in our wounded

        world.

    For all of us waiting for God’s kingdom to come:

    Grant that we might have the peace of Christ as

        we wait,

the love of Christ as we act, and the grace of Christ as we speak.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE                 Sandy Albarty

THE SERVICE of WORD & TABLE

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God of the Messiah, you have saved us, yet we adamantly sin. We make the holydays about stuff and not about sacredness. We fret about the wrongs things. We allow dysfunction to dominate instead of the divine. You fill us with Christ, but we act empty.

For the sake of Emmanuel, forgive us. Prepare us for the comings. Amen.

WORDS OF ASSURANCE AND PARDON                 Leader

Good Christian friends, rejoice! Christ was born to save! God forgives your every sin. What a present!

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

     *DOXOLOGY

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.  Praise Him all creatures here below.  Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.  Amen

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING

A CHRISTMAS CAROL COMMUNION**

(to the tune of “Good King Wenceslas”)

May the Lord be with you all.

   And with you, God’s servant.

Lift your hearts unto the Lord.

   We lift our hearts most fervent.

Let us give our thanks to God.

   Thanks to God the Father.

Good and right it is to do,

   And it has God’s blessing.

Blessing, honor, glory, power unto God Almighty.

Praise to you, eternal Lord, giver of all mercy.

Long ago you made us, Lord, made us in your image.

But through sin we broke the form of our Lord within us.

Still your love came shining through,

From heav’n you did send us.

Christ to take on human flesh, here to live among us.

Christ has suffered for our sin, died a death most cruel.

Now he lives and reigns in heaven, as the brightest jewel.

We the church on earth do sing

with the hosts of heaven.

Glory to the one who died, for he has arisen.

Jesus born at Bethlehem is the king of heaven,

And we praise your blessed name

with the song unending.

(to the tune of “Angels We Have Heard on High”)

Holy, holy, holy Lord,

God of hosts, all praise be given!

All your glory fills the earth;

all your pow-er fills the heavens.

Glo - - - - ri-a, in excelsis Deo!

Glo - - - - ri-a, in excelsis Deo!

Blessed is the one who came,

bringing love and light divine.

Blessed is the king who comes

in the bread and in the wine.

Glo - - - - ri-a, in excelsis Deo!

Glo - - - - ri-a, in excelsis Deo!

(to the tune of “Good Christian Friends, Rejoice”)

Good Christian friends, rejoice

with heart and soul and voice;

On the night he was betrayed, Jesus to the Father prayed;

Bless this bread we are to eat,

let it bring forgiveness sweet.

My body dwells therein; my body dwells therein.

Good Christian friends, rejoice

with heart and soul and voice;

Then he took the blessed cup, praying as he raised it up;

In the wine forever more is the way to heaven’s door.

My blood poured out for you;

my blood poured out for you.

Good Christian friends, rejoice

with heart and soul and voice;

Eat this bread and drink this cup,

share the peace that’s from above.

Angels sing of heaven’s bliss,

as we share this Eucharist.

Christ was born for this; Christ was born for this.

(to the tune of “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”)

O send your Spirit now upon these gifts;

Make them to be Christ’s body and Christ’s blood,

Make real in us his life and show

That we are one with him in ministry.

Now by - our Spirit - make us one with Christ,

Until he comes in love’s great victory.

Through Jesus, your Emmanuel,

and with the Spirit in your holy church,

all honor and glory are yours,

for now and for evermore.

Amen! Amen! To God the glory be.

Amen! Amen! Alleluia! Amen!

(to the tune of “O Little Town of Bethlehem”)

O Lamb of God from Bethlehem,

where Mary gave you birth,

Grant us your mercy, gracious Lord,

Redeemer of the earth.

O lamb of God, forgive us,

for we still live in sin.

O, come to us, abide with us,

and grant us peace within.

BREAKING THE BREAD

GIVING THE BREAD AND CUP

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

(to the tune of “Away in a Manger”)

Lord, now in your mercy, your servants release.

As your word has promised, oh, grant us your peace.

Our eyes your salvation and mercy behold,

Prepared for the nations as prophets foretold.

A light to the Gentiles, by whom they now see,

The glory of Israel, the Promised One be,

Who lives now and ever, the heaven’s bright Son,

With Father and Sprit, eternally one.

*HYMN    “Hail To The Lord’s Anointed”      UMH 203

*DISMISSAL WITH BLESSING

 Go in peace and joy to serve God and neighbor in all

that you do.

     We are sent in the name of the Christ child.

     The peace of God, which passes all understanding,

keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God and of his son Jesus Christ our Lord;

     And the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the

          Son, and the Holy Spirit be among you,

and remain with you always.

     Amen.  Thanks be to God!
