COLINGTON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

“Making Disciples for Jesus Christ”

Bringing in the Greens

November 26, 2018

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

PRELUDE & LIGHTING OF CANDLES

INTROIT     “Gettin’ Ready for the Miracle”        Tom Fettke

GREETING

Leader:   When we look at the world around us, we see the

darkness of war, captivity, greed, and broken relationships.

People: We long for Christ to come again and bring light to

      our world.

Leader:  The Word of the Gospel is that Jesus Christ lives among us, bringing truth and light as a present reality.

All: We worship as those who have a glimpse of that reality,

and we long for its fullness. We are those who labor to make Christ's light more visible on earth. Let us praise God, that the light of Christ shines on in the darkness, which has never overcome it. To God be the glory in Jesus Christ and in the church forever and ever.  Amen.

LESSONS OF CHRISTMAS

PSALM 24: 7-10

Lift up your heads, O gates!

and be lifted up, O ancient doors!

that the Ruler of glory may come in.

Who is the Ruler of glory?

The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle!

Lift up your heads, O gates!

And be lifted up, O ancient doors!

That the Ruler of glory may come in.

Who is this Ruler of glory?

The Lord of hosts,

the Lord is the Ruler of glory!

THE ADVENT WREATH

CAROL              “Do You Hear What I hear”      Regent/Shayne

Said the night wind to the little lamb,

do you see what I see?

Way up in the sky, little lamb,

do you see what I see?

A star, a star, dancing in the night.

With a tail as big as a kite.

With a tail as big as a kite.

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy,

do you hear what I hear?

Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,

do you hear what I hear?

A song, a song, high above the trees.

With a voice as big as the sea.

With a voice as big as the sea.

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king,

do you know what I know?

In your palace warm, mighty king,

do you know what I know?

A Child, a Child shivers in the cold.

Let us bring Him silver and gold.

Let us bring Him silver and gold.

Said the king to the people everywhere,

listen to what I say!

Pray for peace, people everywhere! listen to what I say!

The Child, the Child, sleeping in the night

He will bring us goodness and light.

He will bring us goodness and light.

SANCTUARY GREENS

OLD TESTAMENT LESSON                              Hosea 14:4, 8-9

LITANY OF THE GREENS

How shall we prepare this house for the coming of Jesus,

the King?

With branches of cedar, the tree of royalty.

How shall we prepare this house for the

coming of Jesus, the eternal Christ?

With garlands of pine and fir, whose leaves

are ever living, ever green.

How shall we prepare this house for the

coming of Jesus, our Savior?

With wreaths of holly and ivy, symbolizing His

 passion, death, and resurrection.

How shall we prepare our heart for the coming of Jesus,

the Son of God?

By hearing again the words of the prophets who

foretold the saving work of God.

For God did not send His Son into the world

to condemn the world, but that the world through Him

might be saved.

Glory to God in the highest!

*CAROL                         “The Holly and The Ivy”

The holly and the ivy, when they are both full grown.

Of all the trees that are in the wood

The holly bears the crown.

      Chorus

Oh the rising of the sun and the running of the deer,

The playing of the merry organ

Sweet singing in the choir.

The holly bears a berry as red as any blood.

And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ, to do poor sinners good.

Chorus

The holly bears a prickle, as sharp as any thorn,

And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ

On Christmas Day in the morn.

Chorus

THE CHRISMON TREE

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree!

Thou tree most fair and lovely.

3. O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree!

Thou has a wondrous message:

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree!
